This weekend the Fortuna River Lodge will be holding its 13th Annual Holiday Craft Faire to support local artisans and keep the money local for the holidays. The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and again on Sunday, Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Fortuna River Lodge is located at 1800 Riverwalk Drive. Admission to the event is free.

Debbie Reynolds created the event at the Fortuna River Lodge in November of 2000.

"I use to have craft fairs for the Cuddeback School years ago and enjoyed it very much," Reynolds said. She brought the plan to the River Lodge to support local artisans and work toward keeping money local.

The event will be hosting 32 artisans who will provide handmade products from all areas of crafting.

"We will have fresh wreaths, vintage snow houses, bird houses, hand tooled leather goods, crotchet items, knitted items, bibs, wood crafted items, tie-dye items, stained glass items, night lights, sun catchers, Alpaca rugs, aprons, pottery, soaps, ceramics, lotions, doll clothes, dog treats, and much more," Reynolds said.

For those wanting to make a day of it, the Fortuna High Culinary Art Class will be providing lunch for sale at the Café Court.

Reynolds said she wanted to provide a way for the community to see area talent.

"I wanted the city of Fortuna to host an event for the entire Eel River Valley during the holiday," she said. "It is free admission and a one-stop shop for shoppers who love buying local handmade products," Reynolds said.

Although the event sees numerous shoppers it is not, according to Reynolds, a moneymaker.

"We make just enough for the facility costs through vendor booth fees," she said.

Reynolds can be contacted for any questions at 725-7572. The event's artisan capacity is full, but they do have a waiting list on the chance space opens up.
