The Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department is kicking off their annual Santa's Sleigh program with a presentation from longtime supporters Emma and Sydnee Foley.

The Foley girls presented their fundraising efforts from the past year to the FVFD. The girls operated a lemonade stand for National Lemonade Day on May 5, raising $100 for the program. Additionally, the girls recently held an apple cider stand during the Fortuna Apple Harvest where they raised another $40. The girls set up their stands at Strongs Creek Plaza on the sidewalk area between KiDiLiCiouS and Glamorous Boutique.

Using the funds raised the girls discussed how they wanted to spend the money. Nicole Foley, the girl's mother, said, "They decided on sweatshirts sized 2T through 4T because they felt the smaller sizes would be harder to find. They also wanted to make sure the little kids had warm sweatshirts."

The Foley girls have dedicated their efforts over the past few years to help the community.

"I live raising money for the kids so they can be warm this winter and it's fun," Sydnee Foley said.

"Both of the girls love the Santa Sleigh program and are thrilled to be helping needy children," Nicole Foley said.

Nicole Foley thanked the FVFD for allowing the girls to present the sweatshirts.

"I feel it is important for them to see each stage of the Santa's Sleigh program so they are more connected with our community and its needs," she said. "Hopefully by starting young, giving back to the community will become ingrained within them."

The Santa Sleigh program will be running over the month with food and clothing barrels for collection throughout the community. For more information contact the FVFD at 725-5021.
