Litter patrol in the city of Fortuna

During Summer Fun 2013, children participated in a Recycling Club, calling themselves the "Garbage Munchers". Thanks to a grant, Fortuna's Parks and Recreation Department was able to purchase litter tools and vests for the club. The participants visited Eel River Disposal and were given a VIP tour by the recycling plant's manager, Chuck Schager. This program made children aware of how many recyclable materials go into landfills and end up as garbage. They also learned that they can make a difference in the community. They started a litter patrol and recycling project for the city park, which included the Summer Fun Day Camp's lunch trash.
