It was California Truckers' Association Appreciation night at Redwood Acres Raceway on Friday and the Association had free food for truckers. Some of the regular racers were missing as last week there were quite a few crashes and mechanical issues and some of the cars are not repaired yet. Last week I didn't know who was driving the 22 Roadrunner and this week learned that it was Leonard Ward.
REAL STOCK: Dustin Walters won the trophy dash. In the heat race, William Sand took the early lead but Walters took it away, followed by Ryan Robinson in Nick Green's car and Harvey Holm. In the main event, Matt Simon took the lead but got loose and Michael Lawrence tagged him for a yellow flag. At the restart, Sand took the lead but Walters got past but Holm collided with Walters for another yellow flag. At the restart Sand took the lead but Lawrence, Robinson and Walters and Holm all got past him. Robinson got past Lawrence with Walters in tow. Robinson won, Walters was second, Lawrence third and Holm fourth.
ROADRUNNERS: Eugene Palmer won the trophy dash. At the start of the heat race, Kayla Foster spun in turn 2 and Ken Barrett was not able to avoid hitting her, causing damage to the front of his car and a yellow flag. At the start, Paul Leazer took the lead but Barrett came back to get past Leazer along with Jordon Paiment, Palmer and Jarrett Mayo. After a yellow flag for Gray Ethridge hitting the turn 4 wall, Palmer took the lead for the restart but went to the pits with mechanical issues. Barrett took the win followed by Paiment and Mayo. In the main event, Tim Abeyta took the lead but Mayo got past him. Abeyta hit the back straight wall with a flat tire for a yellow flag. Paiment went through the infield to the pits with a flat tire under the yellow flag but returned to the track. At the restart, Mayo led followed by P. Leazer, Barrett and Robbie Robinson. Barrett pulled into the infield with mechanical issues. Mayo took the win, Leazer was second and Paiment finished third.
THUNDER ROADSTERS: Chris Sarvinski won the trophy dash. In the heat race, Belinda Ward took the lead from the front row followed by Mike Ward, Bruce Ziemer and David Henderson. Ziemer, Henderson and Tommy Payne got past Mike Ward. Henderson got past Ziemer and both of them put pressure on Belinda Ward, but she held on to win the race with Henderson finishing second and Ziemer third. It was a popular win for the race crowd, which loudly cheered. In the main event, before the green flag, Belinda Ward and Les Barnwell had contact on the back straight and the yellow flew. At the start of the race, Robbie Nelson took the lead but Sarvinski soon took it away. Henderson had moved through the field and got past Sarvinski. Sarvinski pulled into the infield with mechanical issues. Henderson took the win followed by Payne, Ziemer and Nelson.
SPORTSMAN: Kenny Demello won the trophy dash. In the heat race, Kenny Demello took the lead but Jerry Peterson went to the outside line and got past him for the lead. Roger Sanderson got past Demello for second spot. At the checker it was Peterson, Sanderson, Demello and Angelo Marcelli. In the main event, Demello took the lead but got loose in turn 2 and Marcelli took the lead with Sanderson in second and Peterson third. Peterson got past Sanderson but Sanderson soon got by Peterson and then took the outside line to get by Marcelli. Peterson also passed Marcelli and at times was on the rear bumper of Sanderson's car but could not get past him. Sanderson took the win with Peterson in second, Marcelli third and Demello fourth.
The next race is Aug. 24 and will feature the Pro-4 Modifieds.
