The Friends of the Fortuna Library will be holding their annual book sale on Saturday, July 27 during the Fortuna AutoXpo. The sale will take place adjacent to the Fortuna Library at 14th and N streets.
The sale proceeds will benefit the Friends of Fortuna Library. Books will be sold for $1 per bag. The sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Friends of the Fortuna Library will use the money raised to purchase books and support the Ancestry.com program. Fortuna Library is the only location where the Ancestry.com program is available to the public in Humboldt County.
Recently the Friends of the Fortuna Library provided refreshments to the Fortuna Library summer reading program. The kickoff event on June 28 served 112 people while providing information about the program.
Carol Kinser of the FFL said: "Fortuna Librarian Chris Cooper has also announced that Katherine Mercer will be teaching two class sessions on using the Library edition of the Ancestry.com program at the Fortuna Library."
Kinser explained that the database will help library users find information on their family's history.
Mercer is an English Literature student at Humboldt State University and has assisted the Public Services division at the Humboldt County Library.
"Katherine has an easy going style and she enjoys helping people find information," Kinser said.
Basic computer literacy is a prerequisite for these courses. The classes will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and Thursday, Aug. 15 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. To sign up, email librarian Chris Cooper at firstname.lastname@example.org.
