Safer access to Cuddeback School will be the result of a project now underway on Highway 36 near Carlotta. Work began on June 17 and will continue through this construction season according to Caltrans Public Information Officer Scott Burger.

"This Route 36 project will add a left turn pocket, allowing safer access off Route 36 onto Wilder Lane which services Cuddeback School," Burger said. "Gateway features will also be installed at each end of the community notifying motorists they are entering a residential area," he said.

One-way traffic control will be in effect and motorists can expect 10 minute delays during construction, which is scheduled to be completed this fall.

GR Sundberg Inc. of Arcata is the contractor for the $372,000 construction project.
