As of June 14, the Fortuna High Senior Class of 2013 had been awarded over $590,000 dollars in scholarships. The scholarships came from a variety of sources, many of them local. At awards night on June 5, the seniors were honored in front of friends and family members. Heavy local scholarship donors included The Humboldt Area Foundation, Fortuna Afternoon and Sunrise Rotary Clubs, the Humboldt County Farm Bureau, the Fortuna Fire Department, and the Fortuna Kiwanis Club, according to a Fortuna High School press release.
Walkyhr Macy received the $8,225 Theodore Roosevelt & Ingrid R. Olander Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by Humboldt Area Foundation.
Shelby Lipscomb received an $8,500 basketball scholarship from Simpson University
Elba Cabrera Sanchez, Robert Lopez, Santa Herrera Avendano, and Dalton Williams each received renewable North Coast College Access Scholarships worth $3,000 a year.
Paul Jones was awarded $33,000 from Lycoming College.
Chance Tindall received a total of $100,000 from Menlo College.
Maite Cortes Garcia has been given a full ride to Pitzer College, worth $240,000.
Fortuna High expressed its gratitude to the generous donors who continue to support students year after year.
Scholarships totaled $596,755, according to the release.
