The sun has been shining and farmers have been putting it to good use. The Fortuna Certified Farmer's Market will make its first appearance of the season on Tuesday, May 21, from 3 to 6 p.m. on 10th and L streets -- along with some new vendors.
"We have so many great things going on this year. We are very excited to have Humboldt Hot Dogs, who uses local grass-fed beef in their hot dogs that are made by Taylors in Oregon," market manager Jamie Cohoon said.
Along with the prepared Humboldt Hot Dogs there will be tri tip and ribs from Ernie G's BBQ. Taco Locos will be returning with their salsa assortments and other prepared items. Loleta Bakery will be back and joined by Loleta Cheese.
National Lemonade Day -- opportunity for children to raise money for a good cause and learn a little about the business world -- is fast approaching and the market is inviting parents and children to come on down on May 21 to sign up to get packets.
The market accepts WIC certificates.
"Many WIC shoppers were able to buy starts and create their own very fruitful gardens at home to provide fresh vegetables to their families," Cohoon said.
SNAP cards can be used at the market and this year a grant has provided the opportunity for the market to match some SNAP purchases. While the funds last, and when the market manager is under the yellow umbrella, $10 SNAP funds will be turned into tokens.
"With the help of the grant we can give an additional $5 in tokens to those SNAP purchases," Cohoon said.
The market is looking for music sponsors for the weekly performances. Sponsorship is $50 and sponsors will have their business name displayed at the market.
For more information, contact Cohoon at 499-2150.
