The organization Families Advocating Autism Now will be holding its fifth annual fundraising garage sale on June 1st.

The group is looking for gently-used items to sell at the sale to help support its local efforts.

Anyone willing to volunteer for the event is greatly appreciated. There will be a lot of set up and clean up for the event, along with servicing the large crowds that come out in support of the great cause.

"We are parents of children who have been diagnosed with autism in the Humboldt County, California area. Our group is dedicated to finding new and better ways to help the education system adapt to the growing and changing needs of the autistic child," the group said in a release.

FAAN seeks to improve local opportunities for growth and development of children diagnosed with autism throughout all aspects of their lives. By doing this, they can provide support and guidance to the education system for the special needs of children on the autistic spectrum.

The annual sale will take place at the Lewis Logging Office located at 3897 Rohnerville Road in Fortuna. Those wishing to drop off small item donations can do so at Lewis Logging, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Arrangements for larger items or weekend drop off please contact Emily Lewis at 499-0741 or

FAAN is also having a Quarter Craze event at the Moose Lodge in Eureka on May 30th, and is looking for volunteers for that event.

The Quarter Craze event will begin at 6 p.m. There will be shopping, food and a chance to preview the dozens of items that will be up for bid for one to three quarters per bid. Tickets are $5 with pre-registration, and $6 at the door with no registration if seating is available.

The event will host lots of prizes -- and for those that know about quarter crazes the coveted magic paddle. All proceeds benefit FAAN. For more information about the quarter craze event, contact Cindy Hardin at 616-3816 or visit the Facebook page at
