Fortuna Mayor Doug Strehl was one of a dozen Humboldt County elected officials participating in Mayors for Meals and assisting with the delivery of meals to homebound seniors. The event took place on March 20 and was part of the March for Meals campaign being promoted by the Humboldt Senior Resource Center.

Mayor Strehl accompanied the regular home delivered meal driver on the Fortuna route serving a number of residents including Esther Boozer.

"We are appreciative of the participation of our local officials in this event," said Barbara Walser, Director of Nutrition & Activities for Humboldt Senior Resource Center. "There is no better way to become familiar with the challenges faced by homebound elderly ... and to increase awareness about hunger in our community," she said.
