There will be no decrease in the number of hot home meals delivered to seniors in Fortuna. In the last month, three new drivers have volunteered to be part of the program, according to Fortuna Nutrition Site Coordinator Launa Salsbery. That brings the number of drivers to 12, which are providing 77 hot home delivered meals and 19 frozen meals a week to seniors in Fortuna.

The Fortuna Nutrition Program has also scheduled several holiday meals and related activities. One meal will be served on Dec. 21, consisting of baked ham, sweet potatoes, a dinner role, and apple pie. A special meal to celebrate the arrival of the New Year is planned for Jan. 2. This meal will include roast beef with gravy, red potatoes, Japanese vegetables, a roll, confetti coleslaw, fruit crisp for dessert, and sparkling cider.

Both meals will be served at noon. To make a reservation, call 725-6245. "There is a suggested donation of $3.50 for each meal, but no senior (aged 60+) will be denied a meal if they are unable to donate," Salsbery said.

A special holiday activity is planned for Dec. 14 at the Mountain View dining site in Fortuna. There will be a Homemade Cookie Contest at 11 a.m. and any senior is welcome to enter. There is no admission fee. Call 725-6245 for more information.
