Fortuna Business Improvement District is launching its annual shop local contest with the entitled 'Shop Fortuna for the Holidays' theme.

The idea is simple and anyone can participate by shopping at Fortuna businesses and submitting their receipts totaling $200. City Hall will have a drop box and appropriate registration form to enter the contest.

Consumers can enter as many times as they would like by simply spending $200 for each new entry. This is a great way to shop locally and support the small businesses in the City of Fortuna who give so generously back to the community throughout the year with donations of money and time.

Last year, the event generated about $60,000 during the 24-day period beginning on the day after Thanksgiving and ending on Dec. 17. There will be three winners that will be drawn on Dec. 18 and notified on Dec. 19, so they may get in some last minute shopping.

Winners of the drawing will receive $200 Fortuna bucks for 1st place, $100 Fortuna bucks for 2nd place, and $50 Fortuna bucks for 3rd place. There are over 150 locally owned businesses where their winnings can be spent.

Fortuna Bucks are always available at Umpqua Bank located at 1360 Main St. Fortuna for purchase. They are redeemable throughout Fortuna for their face value and help to support the community, small businesses, and shopping locally.
