The regular season of the Six Rivers Youth Football Conference wrapped up Oct. 14; soon thereafter, the brackets for the playoffs were announced in the three divisions of play. Both the Ferndale Mustangs and the Eel River Valley Huskies each will send two teams to the postseason and with Ferndale hosting a first round date Sunday, then Eel River hosting Nov. 4, football fans can watch some of the action close to home.

In the Single A division of play, it will be the No. 4-seeded Ferndale Mustangs hosting the Redwood Youth Football Knights Sunday at 10 a.m. The Mustangs wrapped up the regular season last weekend beating the Eureka Green (Jacks) team by a score of 40-13. Coupled with their 37-6 win the previous Sunday versus the ERV White Huskies, the Mustangs have considerable momentum going into the postseason.

They are joined in the Single A playoffs by the No. 6 seeded Eel River Valley Blue Huskies. The Huskies also come in with two straight wins, a 25-0 shutout of Arcata and more recently a 13-6 victory in Brookings, Ore., over the Curry Cubs. The Huskies will face off against the No. 3 seed, the Eureka Red Loggers team, at 9 a.m. Sunday at Arcata High. The ERV White Huskies did not make the playoffs but did earn two wins during the regular season.

The Double AA division will see the No. 5 Eel River Valley Huskies Blue take on the Redwood Knights Sunday at noon on the field at Ferndale High School. The Blue Huskies had two convincing wins the last weeks of the regular season as the team first shut out Arcata 30-0, and this past weekend the Blue cruised past Curry by a score of 41-6. The Ferndale Mustangs Double AA team and the ERV Huskies White team did not make the eight team bracket but had a fine season none the less.

In the Triple AAA division, which features players in the seventh to eighth grade, it will be the No. 3 Ferndale Mustangs hosting the Redwood Youth Knights at 2 p.m. at Ferndale High School. The Mustangs finished the regular season with a flurry, winning 41-0 over the ERV Huskies, then more recently beating the Eureka Loggers 49-14 this past Sunday in Cutten. The ERV Huskies came up one win short of making the postseason after last weekends loss up at Del Norte. Speaking of Del Norte, their youth football team comes in as the No. 1 seed in both the A and AAA divisions, the Eureka Green (Jacks) team is the No. 1 seed in the AA Division.
