Families are invited to the free "Ferndale Family Bike Rodeo" to focus on bicycle safety education and skill-building for the entire family. The rodeo will take place on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ferndale Children's Center, 100 Berding St., in Ferndale. Participants are encouraged to bring their bicycles and helmets although some children's bicycles will be available for use on the skills course.
The bike rodeo is an opportunity for the whole family to have fun while learning how to ride safely and responsibly in Humboldt County. The day will include lots of riding for all family members to practice bicycle safety, a free bike helmet fit check and fitting instructions, a free professional bike safety check for bikes brought to the rodeo, learning safe neighborhood riding, a free booklet -- "Kids on Bikes: A Safety Guide for Kids in Northern California" -- free snacks, and a "bike license."
The Ferndale Family Bike Rodeo is coordinated by Redwood Community Action Agency, Ferndale Children's Center, and BikesThere with support from Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Union Labor Health Foundations' Angel Fund and Henderson Center Bicycles. Call 269-2061 for more information.
