Tegan and Sara far surpassed expectations with their live performance in the Kate Buchanan Room on Saturday. Many thought that it would be a good show, as dozens of dedicated fans lined up outside hours before the doors opened, but most people expected the set to have more of a mellow, acoustic feel. Those people were wrong.

The twin sisters brought a set raw with energy and emotion as they ripped through hits such as “The Con,” “Nineteen” , and “Back in Your Head.”

This show truly emphasized how wonderful it is to see such talented musicians in a setting as intimate as this. The girls made sure to make the show very unique and personal by giving some deep insight into the meaning behind a few select songs.

”We don't usually talk this much,” Sara explained as she chuckled.

One of the highlights of the night was the very moving rendition of “I've Got You” which was full of perfectly crafted vocal melodies by Sara to accompany Tegan's lead. The feel of this song was so special because it almost seemed like they were singing to each other. It really makes you wonder.

“I don't need company, in the company of you. I don't need love, your love will do. And I've got you. You've got me. And that's all you need,” Tegan belted out.

Tegan explained prior to the song the environment in which she wrote “I've Got You.” She was sitting on the carpet in her old apartment in Canada playing her acoustic guitar. Her partner at the time walked in and realized that she was beginning to write a song. Her partner's face lit up and she went in the other room and grabbed a pen and paper.

”What are you doing?” Tegan said.

”I'm going to write down the words to the song as you write them,” her partner said.

Tegan explained, “That is one of my favorite memories. It was so cute.”

To go along with the obviously stellar musicianship, Sara lit up the room with her sense of humor. Between her spontaneous jokes and her interaction with some teddy bears thrown on the stage, their was never a dull moment. This was the type of show that will be talked about for a long time by those who were lucky enough to experience it.
