Who would've thought a reggae-style artist calling himself Collie Buddz would play Humboldt County within a year of releasing his debut, self-titled, record? Well he'll be at the Arcata Community Center Friday with his New Kingston Band and the return of Grouch from the Living Legends and guest DJs.
Not quite as socially aware or conscious as other reggae-esque music that comes through the area lately, but judging by his videos, people like to move to it.
Collie Buddz apparently didn't have to pay any dues, jumping right on the scene with a major record deal.
”A wicked voice, killer riddims and a mad-sick flow, Bermudian reggae artist Collie Buddz self titled debut album proves he's a solidly talented artist with a rock-solid foundation in reggae and the talent to connect ghetto reality with the highest heights of human aspiration” stated a recent press release. “Born in New Orleans and raised in Bermuda, Buddz creates island sounds that blend hip-hop and soca beats over confessional first-person lyrics.”
And on the tour is one eighth of the underground hip-hop super group. The Living Legends, The Grouch.
He was just up here a couple months ago with Living Legends colleague Eligh, and his return signals that he's still out there pushing his first solo record in five years, "Show You The World."
Also on the bill are DJ's Selecta Prime and Dub Cowboy.
Tickets are available at all the usual outlets and are $28.
Doors open at 8 p.m.
