What: Stand Up! Comedy

In addition to the Mateel, another Southern Humboldt venue is getting in on the stand-up comedy action this Thursday night: Cecil's New Orleans Bistro. A few Bay Area comedians are on the bill -- Matt Lieb, Torio Van Grol and Stevie Post will perform at the free event. Lieb has opened for W. Kamau Bell, Grol was the runner-up in the Rooster T. Feather's Comedy Competition and Post says he's met Bob Saget. Locals Nando Molina and host Tony Persico will also be at the Garberville show.

What: Ani Kalayjian

When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday

Where: Fortuna Monday Club, 610 Main St.

Admission: $10, all ages

Internationally-touring cellist Ani Kalayjian headlines Saturday night's newest episode of the Fortuna Concert series -- her trio is putting on a show called “Bohemian Soul: Nationalism Inspired by Folk Music." Kalayjian previously performed in Fortuna with the Sima Trio.

What: Make Me Laugh!

When: 9 p.m. Saturday

Where: Eureka Inn, 518 Seventh St.

Admission: $5, 21+

Featuring the three comedic headliners from the previous night's show at Cecil's in Garberville (Matt Lieb, Torio Van Grol and Stevie Post), the laugh-inducing event at the Eureka Inn on Saturday night is called “Make Me Laugh!” Nando Molina, Rhythym McCollum and Joe Deschaine will do their best to make attendees laugh in 60 seconds or less.


What: The Pine Hearts

When: 9 p.m. Friday

Where: Six Rivers Brewery, 1300 Central Ave., McKinleyville

Admission: Free, all ages

Washington alt-bluegrass quintet The Pine Hearts will return to Humboldt for a free show on Friday night at Six Rivers Brewery in McKinleyville. “(Our) music has it's base in traditional mountain music and is infused with elements of zydeco, indie-rock, folk and country,” according to their website. They'll be equipped with mics, a guitar, mandolin, banjo, drum-set and a stand-up bass.
