KMUD Radio and Burningleaf Productions present Spectacular! Spectacular!, featuring a fine French feast with theatrical treats, a night of cabaret and cirque and spectacle and more.
The Portuguese Hall in Arcata will be transformed into a Moulin Rouge-inspired circus lounge setting the stage for a spectacular Saturday night. Doors open at 7 p.m. for an hour of cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and theatrics. Guests are encouraged to dress in their finest circus cabaret attire. The photo booth will be open.
Chefs Paul Lefever and Geoffrey Goldsmith will prepare an organic French feast with Copper River smoked salmon mousse with crostini; chevre stuffed dates wrapped in bacon; a spring vegetable tart; spinach salad with fontana, pancetta and beet vinaigrette, seared Bayside lamb over a roasted root vegetable risotto, shaved Brussel sprouts, wild mushroom au jus and, for dessert, Beurre noisette, an almond and pear cake, served with cider caramel and cinnamon Crème Anglaise. The vegetarian option is grilled portobello mushrooms.
During dinner, the audience will be entertained with a variety cabaret combining vaudeville, comedic hilarity, acrobatic and contortionist wonder and sensual dance of many styles including acts from the Redwood Rings Hoop Troupe and Southern Humboldt's Bada Bling! Burlesque.
After dinner, two stages will present music for the dance party. Expect a strong dose of Booty-shaking break beats and house when Mancub hits the stage. Opener Space Cowboys veteran DJ Mancub has more than 20 years experience throughout the U.S. and United Kingdom.
Coming all the way from Washington D.C., DJ Rusty Belicek of the All Good Funk Alliance will deliver a fresh, funky sound. The All Good Funk Alliance has opened up for the legendary James Brown, written songs for Washington Heights and consistently appears on the Breakspoll Top 50 list.
Headlining the night is Oakland singer, emcee and producer Lafa Taylor. Taylor's inspirational vocal style ranges from sweet melodic choruses to tongue-twisting rhymes, blurring the lines between live hip-hop, rhythm and blues and raw bass music.
Tickets for the entire evening, including dinner and entertainment, are $50, but will likely sell out, so don't delay. Tickets for the dance party only are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, $15 for students with ID. Admission is limited to those 18 and older. Tickets are available at People's Records and Wildberries Marketplace in Arcata, Blue Moon in Garberville and doors open for the Extravagant Dance Party.
