What: Nightmare Boyzzz

Alabama punk rockers Nightmare Boyzzz have dreamt up and planned a tour that brings their catchy, garage-esque sound to Arcata's Jambalaya this Thursday night. Touring in support of their 2013 LP “Bad Patterns,” these five self-described “power-pop” musicians have a sound that brings the Buzzcocks and Iggy Pop to mind.

Admission: $17 in advance, $20 at the door, 21+

University of Colorado graduate The Polish Ambassador will represent laid-back, funky, visuals-embellished electronica on Thursday night as the musician also known as David Sugalski sets up in the Arcata Theatre Lounge. Known for running his own label, Jumpsuit Records, Sugalski sprinkles hip-hop and funk into his audio. According to his website, he's “committed to carbon-neutral touring, instigating exploratory dance and igniting fan participation.” The Polish Ambassador's duo Wildlight featuring vocalist Ayla Nereo will also perform along with livetronica act saQi.

What: Carrie Rodriguez, Luke Jacobs

Where: Arcata Playhouse, 1251 Ninth St.

Admission: $15 general, $13 members

Acoustic folk-pop star Carrie Rodriguez will return to the Arcata Playhouse on Friday night with fellow Austin, Texas musician Luke Jacobs -- a talented guitarist and harmonica player. Rodriguez is touring in support of her 2013 LP “Give Me All You Got,” which was produced by Lee Townsend (Elvis Costello/Crooked Still). She has toured with Jeff Bridges, Lucinda Williams and Chip Taylor.

What: Battle of the Bass featuring Salva

When: 8 p.m. Saturday

Where: Portuguese Hall, 1185 11th St., Arcata

Admission: $15 in advance, $20 at the door, 21+

The third annual Battle of the Bass at the Portuguese Hall in Arcata will feature local electronic musicians competing for a live-performance slot at this year's Northern Lights Music Festival in Piercy. On top of the low-end tunes tournament, LA dubstep act Salva will hit the stage. More details on the contest on Facebook.

Where: Eureka Inn, 518 Seventh St.

Admission: $5, 21+

Bay Area stand-up comedian Ben Feldman will headline a show on Saturday night at the Eureka Inn. His “dry wit” has been praised by Robin Williams, and he has opened for Mike Birbiglia as well as Chris Kattan. Fellow Bay Area comedian Jesse Fernandez and a long list of talented locals will also perform. Space Biscuit and Wownd will add some music.

Where: Jambalaya, 915 H St., Arcata

Melodic, rockin' and experimental, New York pianist and singer-songwriter Marco Benevento is hitting the Jambalaya in Arcata on April 1 in support of his new LP “TigerFace.” Recorded and mixed by Tom Biller (Silversun Pickups), the album has drawn comparisons to Explosion in the Sky and Brian Eno. Local funk jammers The Getdown Crew will also perform. Price of admission to be determined.
