Many in the community came out to support the regular attendee since 1988. Barbara Walser, Director of Nutrition and Activities said “Chuck's presence has become an important part of the Fortuna Dining Center. Things would not be the same without him.”
Corwin has volunteered at HSRC's Fortuna dining location for nearly 25 years, performing almost every job in the kitchen. Currently he is the dishwasher, serves as vice-president on the Fortuna Site Council, and a friend to those who enter. No matter what job he is doing, Corwin is said to always have a positive attitude and a smile on his face.
”We are so pleased that Chuck has been a part of our Fortuna Dining Center these 25 years,” said Joyce Hayes, Humboldt Senior Resource Center's executive director. “He has contributed so much and always with a smile and a sparkle in his eyes!”
Corwin is also known for his deep love of dancing. It is well known that if he has a dance partner, music, and space, you will find him on the dance floor.
”As long as I can stand I'll dance,” he said.
The love for dancing brings Corwin to monthly dances at the Moose Hall and if the Fortuna dining site has music, you will again find him dancing. When he is not dancing or doing dishes he can often be seen chatting and joking with friends both new and old, and drinking from his favorite cup that says “Don't ask me, I just work here.”
