From 12:01 a.m., Dec. 13, 2013 through midnight Tuesday, officers representing seven county law enforcement agencies have arrested at least 71 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2012 48 DUI arrests occurred during the 2012 holiday campaign time period. Recent arrest numbers were identified as “provisional” in the release as some agencies had yet to report in.
There are no additional special operations planned until Super Bowl Sunday. CHP will be deploying all available officers for their maximum enforcement period during the holiday weekend ending midnight, Tuesday. All regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will focus efforts at stopping and arresting DUI drivers during their normal shifts through the weekend.
Multiple DUI driver's license checkpoints, multi-agency DUI task force operations and local roving DUI patrols were part of this region-wide crackdown during the 20-day winter holiday campaign, according to the release. DUI arrest data collection was to continue through midnight, Tuesday, according to the release.
The Avoid the 7 task force will again deploy DUI operations and patrols during Super Bowl Sunday on Feb. 2. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
