The man who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 101 north of Lopez Road near Smith River early Dec. 28 has been identified as 66-year-old Ronald Earl Silva of Brookings, Ore., according to CHP Officer Brandy Gonzales.

Initial reports stated Silva was from Yakima, Wash., but Gonzales said new evidence shows that he was from Brookings.

Silva was found by the Crescent City CHP after they received a report of a body lying in the west shoulder of the road at 2:23 a.m., according to a CHP press release.

Gonzales said they are still investigating the case and looking into surveillance footage to determine the time of death and type of vehicle that struck Silva.
