Fortuna will be alive with festive activities on the first Friday of the month, kicking off the holiday season from 6-9 p.m. along and around Main Street.
”There will be art, music, fun and great deals from local merchants,” Diana Rios of the Fortuna Business Improvement District said. “Fortuna's First Friday features amazing artists from Humboldt's north coast, including, oil, acrylic, water color paintings, air brushing, pottery, and modern day sculptures.”
Local musicians will have an outlet to play great music in a number of locations around downtown, she said.
You will find music and art that is good for all ages. There is truly something for everyone,” Rios said.
Barky Dogz Bathhouse, 1041 Main St., will have a full and self-service pet bathing and grooming haven featuring locally made natural pet products.
Bartow's Jewelers, 651 12th St., will be displaying their Rarest Rainbow natural color diamond jewelry collection. Rarest Rainbow has partnered with the Jewelers for Children Fund to provide assistance to children in need through their “Heart of Hope Pendant” in which each pendant purchase provides a portion of the sales donated to the JFC Fund.
Beverage Plus Foods at 1221 Main St., The Antique Depot at 1122 Main St., and Trendz at 1021 Main St. are all open for business during the Friday night event.
Body Works Fitness Center, 1156 Main St., offers a free fitness day every first Friday of the month to come in and work out.
Dakota's Designs at 1040 Main St. will be featuring art by owner Dakota Daetwiler, local artists Bobbi Bennetzen and Richard Leamon, and a live painting by Daetwiler. More art can be found at Fortuna Art & Old Things at 1026 Main St., where Alice Shaw will be present with her watercolor and ink cards and small prints.
Refreshments are often provided by the many businesses involved in First Friday, but for those who would like to enjoy a full meal several restaurants will be open to fulfill those needs.
Taco Loco at 955 Main St. will be open and displaying a new artist for their first night participating in First Friday. Hoppy's FroYo at 1151 Main St. will offer frozen yogurt and live music of local youth. L's Kitchen, 734 Main St., will also keep their doors open and have a new art display. Eel River Brewery, although not on Main Street, will have Tim Wilson playing the guitar at its restaurant on 1777 Alamar Way.
Ferndale Jewelers at 1020 Main St. will be having PB&J Party. Main Street Art Gallery & School at 1003 Main St. will have new art by Chuck Bowden and live music. Marian's Beauty Salon at 741 11th St. will be presenting hair art by Josephine Brazil and jewelry art by Ashley Bones, and McLean Foundation at 1336 Main St. will have art by Judy Nunes and music by Layla Dias.
Precision Intermedia at 1012 Main St. will be displaying multiple art mediums by Stir Fry Willie who will also be a the Playroom for the annual Halloween costume contest. Rain All Day Books at 1136 Main St. will have art pastels by Abbie Perrott. Strehl's Family Shoes & Repair at 1155 Main St. will have pen, ink, scratch board art by Louise, and The Humboldt Corner at 899 Main St. will be featuring artists Jed Stroll and Matt Cascio demonstrating glassblowing in the store.
There will be businesses open late offering specials and discounts. First Friday takes place from 6-9 p.m. and with the holiday season here, crowds enjoy the evening out looking at the lights, shopping, and enjoying local artists and musicians. Fortuna's First Friday is having a difficult time getting artists and musicians to fill the businesses.
