Humboldt Beer Week and Oktoberfest will be celebrated during the first week of October at Eel River brewing Company in Fortuna. Three specific activities are planned for all beer lovers of legal age.

Start the celebration by attending the inaugural class of Eel River Brewing Company's Beer University. Craft beer is the topic, in particular India Pale Ales (IPAs), and will include tastings. Class will take place Oct. 2 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Eel River Brewery, led by brewery owner Ted Vivatson, and head brewer Matt Vivatson. “Tuition” is $10 and class size is limited to 20, so sign up today.

On Oct. 3 at 7 p.m., show up for the first ever ERB-I-N-G-O night, a free event full of prize giveaways, such as pub food and more. This event will be hosted by Eel River brewery marketing manager Nicole Schwartz and Sarah Vitello.

The culmination of the festivities celebration is Oktoberfest on Oct. 4. Chef Dave Bourne's special German menu will be available for tasting starting at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m., Guy Smith & the German Band take the stage in the outdoor beer garden, playing live, traditional German music. During this party, Eel River Brewery servers will be dressed in traditional Oktoberfest clothing.

For an extra special celebration of Humboldt Beer Week, Eel River Brewing Company was one of five local brewers to contribute to the production of a special Humboldt microbrew. Together with Redwood Curtain, Mad River Brewery, Lost Coast Brewery and Humboldt Regeneration, Eel River helped develop Elaborate Collaborate, an English IPA. The collaboration brew is due for release on Saturday.

Autumn is here, and it's time to celebrate. Call Eel River Brewery at 725-BREW (2739) for more information.
