”Reading is so Delicious” is the theme for the 2013 Summer Reading Program locally and statewide, and the Rio Dell Public Library is planning a special celebration to launch the program this coming weekend.
The kickoff pizza party on Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. will also include a special performance by magician Dale Lorzo and game activities. The pizza and juice for this event were made possible by the Pizza Factory in Rio Dell and other community donations.
There are several other activities planned in June according to Rio Dell librarian Katrina Erdman. “Starting June 19, we will be putting on Wednesday craft days,” Erdman said. “Kids will be able to drop in any time Wednesday and put together a craft to take home,” she said. The first craft will be a taco magnet because Wednesday, June 19 is bilingual story time day, and library volunteer JoAnna Ortiz will be reading a story at 2 p.m. that day.
The second Wednesday Craft Day will be June 26 and will feature starting garden plants from seed.
Saturday, June 22 is the monthly meeting of the local book discussion group. At 4 p.m. the discussion will begin about “The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane” by author Katherine Howe. This gathering is open to all interested persons.
The final June activity is directed at local teens and is called Poetry Palettes, starting at 4 p.m. on June 29. “This is the first teen night activity,” Erdman said. “We'll have a variety of poetic forms set up as fill in the blank for participants to try, and snacks to go with each form.”
