Fortuna's Colton Ross won three events and therefore three H-DN White Stars at the All-County Meet this past Friday at Fortuna High School. Ross leads a contingent of Husky track and field athletes where the next stop will be the North Coast Section's Redwood Empire Meet at Santa Rosa High School this Saturday. It was actually the H-DN meet back on May 2nd up at Del Norte High that was the NCS qualifier event. This past Friday was all about the H-DN honors for the top local track athletes. Colton Ross won the boys 110 meter hurdles event with a time of :15.30, the boys 300 meter hurdles in :41.50 and the pole vault with a height of 12'-06”. He won the same three events at Del Norte the prior week.
”Ever since football got over I've been putting in the extra work, hitting the weights and I've received a ton of help from my coaches,” explained Ross on his stellar results this track season. Other athletes who will also attend the NCS event are Kyle Wiegman who captured four 2nd place finishes at H-DN's in the 110 meter hurdles, the high jump (5'10”), the pole vault (11'06”) and as part of the Fortuna boys 4X100 meter relay team. Husky sprinter Josh Jorgensen captured 2nd place in the 100 meter dash with a time of :11.64. Fortuna's Thomas Roberts and Josh Simmons went 2nd and 3rd in the boys shot put event.
The Husky throwers then went one better by going 1-2 in the discus throw, with Simmons winning the event and his White Star with a throw of 133'00” and Thomas going a distance of 126'11'.
The Ferndale Wildcat track and field athletes will compete in the NCS Class A Meet also this Saturday at Montgomery High School. Some top results for the Cats were Kyle Chambers 5th place finish in the 100 meter dash up at the Del Norte qualifier, where he also ran for a 6th place finish at 200 meters. Ferndale will compete alongside athletes from other small schools in the section. The top athletes at both NCS events will move on to the Northern California Meet of Champions to be held May 24-25.

Fortuna High pole vaulter Katrina Cahill reaches for a winning height in the varsity girls event at the H-DN All-County Track & Field Meet this past Friday at Fortuna High. Cahill ended in a tie with Arcata's Earle-Rouse at a height of 8' 06" but got the nod for the win.
