Female movers and shakers in the logging and lumber industries gathered in Eureka this past weekend to honor one of their own.
Rosina Lewis, who with her husband Ed owns and operates Lewis Logging and Rosina Vineyards, was honored as the 2013 Shining Star. The award was presented at the Redwood Region Logging Conference's Ladies Day Luncheon on March 16 at the Wharfinger Building.
Multiple generations of women involved in the timber industry gathered to congratulate Lewis on her award, and enjoyed a lunch catered by Scotia-based Dorris and Daughter. Guests were also treated to a flavored champagne bar -- and just in time for St. Patrick's Day, entertainment from the Emerald Coast Irish dancers.
The Shining Star Award is given annually to one woman for her outstanding contributions to the timber industry and to the community.
Lewis was recognized for her commitment to her family and her dedication to local community endeavors such as Families Advocating Autism Now, or FAAN. Every year, Rosina Vineyards in Redcrest is the gathering point, where Rosina and Ed Lewis host a fundraiser to raise awareness about autism in the local community.
Another long-standing Lewis tradition is an annual Easter egg hunt and home-cooked feast afterward, attended by family and close friends for the last 35 years. Lewis said she enjoys having her children and grandchildren spend time with “Grammy and Poppa” at their home in Redcrest, baking cookies, swimming in the pool and being together. She also grows a garden every year and shares her canned vegetables with friends and neighbors. And along with other family members, Lewis helps care for her mother-in-law Janice Lewis.
Rosina and Ed Lewis have been married for more than 40 years, and both come from long-time Humboldt County families. Both her husband Ed Lewis and her late father-in-law Ed Lewis, Sr., are past presidents of the Redwood Region Logging Conference.
