Student enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year is on the minds of representatives of the Fortuna Elementary School District and Redwood Preparatory Charter School. FESD is getting ready to mail an informational flier to businesses and families currently enrolled, and Redwood Preparatory School has a final informational enrollment meeting scheduled for Feb. 28.

The Fortuna Elementary School District flier says that families may apply to have children attend a school other than their school of residence, although preference will be given to students living within the schools attendance area. Incoming kindergartners must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2013. Students may register for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) if they will be 5 years old on or before Dec. 2, 2013.

The flier lists enrollment opportunities at South Fortuna Elementary School (Grades TK-4), Norman Ambrosini Elementary (Grades TK-4), Fortuna Middle School (Grades 5-8), and Toddy Thomas Middle School (Grades 5-8).

The last of four meetings at Redwood Preparatory School for families interested in enrolling students for the 2013-2014 school year is on Feb. 28. Attendance at an informational meeting is required to complete enrollment. The meeting is at 6 p.m. at the Redwood Prep Annex. The student enrollment lottery will be held March 1; families are invited to attend, but are not required to do so.

Information posted on their website states that the educational program at Redwood Prep is designed to be a child centered, project and inquiry-based, active learning environment aligned with the National Core Content and California Standards. Redwood Preparatory Charter School provides an academically rigorous, K-6 grade college-bound educational opportunity, has enrichment classes including art, after school programs, and sports. The school can be reached by calling 682-6149.

The Fortuna Elementary School District flier indicates that all schools are part of the Decade of Difference and that students and families have access to highly qualified teachers at all grade levels, bilingual Spanish teachers and paraprofessionals, classroom technology, music instruction at all grade levels, financial literacy programs to promote saving at early ages, after school programs at school, and more. The Fortuna Elementary School District Office can be reached by calling 725-2293.
