Drivers, crews and family gathered at the Bear River Casino and Hotel banquet room on Nov. 17 for the annual awards banquet. Racers received checks, some received Redwood Acres Raceway jackets, and various special awards were presented. The money awards are sponsored by Bear River Casino, Redwood Capital Bank and O'Reilly Auto Parts, and drivers have to show up at the banquet to get the money. About 185 people attended.
Linda Olson presented Leonard Bowman, chair of the Bear River Tribe with the Award of Excellence. Thunder Roadster driver Bernard Burns received the Mr. Nice Guy Award, and the Roll Over Award was given to Kayla Foster, who rolled her Roadrunner car in practice this year. Thunder Roadster driver Jim Rich received the Most Improved Driver Award and Sportsman driver, and Dennis DelBiaggio received the Sportsmanship Award. Three Rookie of the Year Awards were presented to Real Stock driver Tyler Avelar, Roadrunner driver Thomas Halvorsen and Thunder Roadster driver Lance Martin. The champions in each class were all in attendance. Real Stock division champ is Donnie Hyman, Michael Lawrence in Roadrunners, Paul Peeples, Jr., in Thunder Roadster and Brandon Barnwell in Sportsman. Peeples, Jr. and Barnwell were repeat champions as both also won their divisions in 2007 and 2008.
The tentative race schedule for 2013 will start the season on April 6 for drivers to practice and tune their cars at the Acres, with April 20 the first race.
