If you're not a longtime resident and member of the North Coast theater/arts/media community, you may not recognize the name Matt L'Herogan.

But, those of us who have had the pleasure of knowing him over the years are well aware of just how much his talents have enriched the community.

This extraordinarily gifted man and his wife Sally were among the founders of the Pacific Arts Theater, the original home company at the old creamery building in Arcata, now home to the Arcata Playhouse. L'Herogan was not only a brilliant actor and director, but managed the company during its artistic hey-day.

He later moved on to being a key member of the behind-the-scenes technical team as a floor engineer at the local NBC affiliate, KIEM-TV. There, his theatrical expertise added a deeper dimension to his work -- a profession that he has now been forced to leave due to a serious health-related situation.

This always full-of-life individual has developed a progressive form of lung disease, idiopathic pulmonnary fibrosis, resulting from a clogged artery. He is now in desperate need of by-pass surgery -- a procedure that his family cannot afford on their own.

That's why L'Herogan's friends and former artistic and business associates decided to do their best to help him get the medical treatment he needs by holding a special, musical benefit to raise funds.

”A Magical Musical Matt L'Herogan Fun-Raiser” will held in the ballroom of the Eureka Inn on Saturday.
