The Fortuna Concert Series is hosting the Bluegrass music of local musicians The Compost Mountain Boys on Saturday. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Fortuna Monday Club located at 610 Main St.
The Compost Mountain Boys have been performing together since 1991 and are well known for their traditional bluegrass music. The evening will be filled with that traditional bluegrass with an added contemporary element.
CMB states, “We play most anywhere from major festivals, to local venues and of course your personal event. We have performed at CBA Festivals and have produced on C.D. 'Compost Live!' at the Redwood Coast Jazz Festival.” Proud to be in Humboldt County CMB shared, “We are blessed to have made our home in the Redwoods and to have such a rich and lively arts community in which we play.”
Darleene Sampson states, “Bruce Johnson Jr. plays the stand-up bass, and offers smooth lead and tenor vocals to the band. Tim Wilson is an excellent flat-pick guitarist, and plays tasteful and dynamic guitar breaks. Tim is also a lead and harmony vocalist.” Sampson continues, “Mike (Spumoni) Manetas plays mandolin, is a fine bluegrass singer and provides historical knowledge of this music that brings tunes from the world of bluegrass to enlarge the group's repertoire. Martin Dodd fills out the band with his acoustic guitar and vocals. He plays strong rhythm to round out the band's sound.”
The doors open at 6:45 p.m. and tickets will be available for purchase at that time. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for students and seniors, or you can purchase season tickets.
