The Scotia Inn will be filled with members of the Humboldt County Farm Bureau at their 99th annual meeting Sunday. The Humboldt County Farm Bureau was established in 1913 and was the 1st County Farm Bureau in California.
The Humboldt County Farm Bureau is a vital connection and advocate for preserving agriculture activities and addressing land use issues in the county. The local bureau has an active marketing committee, land use committee, and the largest scholarship program in the state of California. The scholarship program has an over $2 million foundation donated and dedicated to local high school graduates for continuing education from several local farmers and ranchers.
John Vevoda -- Ferndale rancher, county Farm Bureau president and California Farm Bureau district director -- will preside over the meeting.
The annual meeting will begin with no-host cocktails at 5 p.m. followed by the ever popular “Home Town Harvest Dinner” featuring locally produced products at 6 p.m. Tickets are $35 each and advance purchase is recommended as seating is limited.
Sanford Lowry, past president of the county Farm Bureau from 2002 to 2004, will be presented with the Humboldt County Farm Bureau Lifetime Achievement Award. Lowry, is a beef and sheep producer from Bear River, resides in Ferndale and has been involved in the Farm Bureau for over 40 years.

Vevoda will be turning over the gavel to incoming president Greg Dale. Dale has been on the Farm Bureau board for over 10 years and operates Coast Seafoods in Eureka.
Dale will have the distinct honor of leading the Humboldt County Farm Bureau into its upcoming 100th Anniversary Celebration Year. Over the next year Dale will be working with the rest of the local Farm Bureau to coordinate activities and events that will showcase their strong agricultural community.
During the nights festivities there will be a Silent auction to help raise funds for the 100th Anniversary year of celebration. Silent auction items will include a Humboldt County grass fed lamb, gift baskets of locally produced items, flower bulbs, multi-grafted apple trees, and much more.
