Fortuna Police Department dog “Zorro” assisted police in the arrest of a man on the 500 block of Eighth Street on Wednesday.
Around 9 a.m. an officer observed Demarcus Earl Conley, 30, who he knew from prior contact, according to a press release.
When the officer attempted to contact Conley, he fled into a nearby residence of an acquaintance.
Conley hid in an attic and refused to surrender, according to a press release. After attempts to negotiate with Conley failed, Zorro was deployed, at which time Conley agreed to comply with officers and was taken into custody without further incident, according to a press release.
During the incident, officers observed illegal items in the residence, according to a press release, and officers returned with a search warrant and collected the contraband.
Conley was booked into the Humboldt County jail for the warrant and on suspicion of probation violation and resisting arrest.
