Fortuna is now home to its first wine bar. The Wine Den, managed by Karen Nielsen within The Furniture Den on Main Street Fortuna, is open Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until evening.
”Kevin and I wanted a place for people to enjoy a nice glass of wine, socialize and use some of the wonderful space that is inside the store,” Nielsen said.
About three years ago, 1981 FUHS graduate Kevin Hinton returned home to fulfill his dream of starting his own furniture company with his family. Over the past year Kevin and Karen have seen that dream take form and are now expanding on that dream to include what Nielsen describes as “a special place to have date night with your loved one, a place to have fun with friends, close a business deal, or a space to have a group party or get together.”
The Wine Den offers wine by the glass and bottle for those over 21 in a comfortable Western-themed lounge. Wine can be purchased by the bottle to take home or gift to that special someone. The Wine Den also offers specialty gifts like hand painted glasses from Lolita, art from Alphabet Soup Photography, candy from Sweetness and Light, and wine décor.
Nielsen explains, “We offer wines that are not available in your local grocery stores.” After opening in the past couple weeks with a wine and beer license The Wine Den is looking into having catered food available and expanding their wine selection.
The Wine Den is located at 1156 Main Street in Fortuna. For more information you can find The Wine Den on Facebook, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or contact Karen Nielsen at 725-4336.
