The South Fortuna Elementary School PTA is holding their 5th annual Walk-a-thon. The event is being held at the new South School track for K-5th graders who can run or walk from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. The event is a fundraiser for a new, large playground structure.

The students have been pounding the pavement obtaining fixed amount pledges from their families, friends, and neighbors. All participants of the Walk-a-thon will be awarded a ribbon, and special prizes will be awarded to those who obtain special pledge goals.

The PTA encourages all students to participate in the Walk-a-thon stating, “It provides each child a fun and healthy community activity that also raises funds for our school.” Obesity is of great concern among the nation's children. Activities based around exercise are a great way to promote better health in our youth.

California is suffering budget cuts in many areas. Students, parents, and school staff have responded with creative, healthy ways to fill the gap and continue to provide a better environment for the local children.

If you would like to make a fixed amount donation for the purchase of a large playground structure at South Fortuna Elementary School, contact 725-2519. All donations will go to the South Fortuna Elementary School PTA earmarked for the playground structure.
