For many citizens of Fortuna, the popping of gunshots on most Sundays goes unnoticed. Many assume it is from the river bar, but few actually know it is from the Eel River Trap Club located on Eel River Drive in Fortuna.

The Eel River Trap Club is a Skeet & Trap Range located at 1825 Eel River Drive in Fortuna that is open to the public on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., except during a registered shoot. The club also offers hunter safety classes.

Starting in April 2012, the club will be open for special events from 10 a.m. to dark. In addition, May 2012 through September will bring Thursdays from 10 a.m. to dark and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The club will be open during the following holidays: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and New Years Day, Jan. 1, 2013.

There will be three registered shoots at the Eel River Trap Club. The first practice is on Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to dark followed by the shoot on Feb. 11 and Feb. 12 from 8 a.m. to dark. The second practice will take place on July 6 followed by the shoot on July 7 and July 8 from 8 a.m. to dark. The final practice will be on Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to dark followed by the “Toys 4 Tots Shoot” on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11 from 8 a.m. until dark.
