The Winter Concert tradition was in full swing during the holidays at Norman G. Ambrosini School. The school put on a multi-class musical extravaganza to boost the holiday spirit.

During the previous school year, Ambrosini utilized Nola Sharp in their Excel program. Gaining a positive response, Sharp began teaching classroom music at Ambrosini this year.

A lot of preparation goes into the Winter Concert and Sharp started working with the children in November. Many of the songs ranged from traditional to unique with a special touch added by students playing instruments during the performances.

Bells rang out for some of the more traditional songs and the fourth grade performed a song playing recorders. Many students found it comforting and fun to play an instrument during their performances.

The first performances were by the kindergarten through second grade with final performances by the third and fourth graders. Each class sang a couple songs and then came together with their grades to perform a sing along with each other and the large standing room only crowd.

Ambrosini Principal Amy Betts said the performance was also a learning experience and a fun event.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for students to get use to performing on stage in front of a large audience.” Betts said. “It was wonderful for families to see their children dressed up and performing on stage.”

The Winter Concert takes place every year in December. Norman G. Ambrosini School serves children kindergarten through fourth grade with their sister school, Toddy Thomas Elementary School, serving fifth through eighth grade. Both schools are affected by Measure U, the ballot initiative recently passed in the city of Fortuna, which is consolidating the two long-time school districts with South Fortuna Elementary and Town School.
