Glamorous Garb was founded in October of 2009 by the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. The idea came about to help “deserving, school-aged young women who cannot afford to purchase their own new or used formal attire,” according to the nonprofit organization's Facebook page entitled, “Glamorous Garb.”
The organization is looking for new or used formal wear, jewelry, shawls, gloves, shoes, and evening bags. These items will be offered to those young women who wish to, with a sponsor, submit a confidential letter which details their needs.
Glamorous Garb is reaching out to local young women who are attending the Fortuna Union High School semi-formal being held this weekend. They have a large assortment of dresses to assist these teens in need with free attire.
FUHS winter formal will be held in February. Anyone with dresses, shoes or accessories to donate, can contact Glamorous Garb.
Last year, the organization was able to also help eighth graders with their graduation needs. What once was a semi-casual to semi-formal event can now be at times very fancy.
For more information or to inquire about obtaining a dress for an upcoming event, contact Nicole at 834-5877 or visit their webpage on Facebook at www.facebook.com/pages/Glamorous-Garb.
