The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2207, The American Legion Post 205 and the Rotary Club of Fortuna announced the dedication of a new memorial on the grounds of the Veterans' Memorial Hall in Fortuna on Jan. 5.

Clista Lewis of Lewis Redwood Products and Granite Headstones Custom Design designed the beautiful granite block memorial. It is inscribed, “In Honor of all our Veterans Past, Present and Future Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard.”

All of the organizations involved would like to give a special thanks to Dennis Wendt from Wendt Construction for installing the memorial and the Fortuna Garden Club for sharing a space in their Blue Star Garden. There are three vases carved into the monument for the public to place flowers if they wish and flags will be displayed during Veteran's Day and Memorial Day. In a release the organizations said the memorial is “for to all of the brave men and women who have served, or will serve this great nation.”
