Dear Editor,

The year 1952 was a banner year for Fortuna High basketball. Our heavyweight basketball team, coached by George Crandall, set a standard that has never been equaled in the school's history, going undefeated (16-0) during the regular season, followed by an invitation to the Tournament of Champions in Berkeley (now the NorCal Championships), where we performed admirably, with 1 win and 2 - 1 point losses.

Glenn Laursen (FUHS '53), a member of that team, has organized a reunion to honor the team and its coach for their accomplishments and contributions to FUHS basketball and athletics. Glenn has asked me if I would help with publicity.

The dates of the reunion have been set for Jan. 20 and 21, 2010. The schedule of events has been finalized with the FUHS basketball game against Del Norte in Fortuna on Wednesday, Jan. 20, and the reunion banquet is set for Thursday, Jan. 21.

The banquet will be held in the Fortuna River Lodge Steelhead Room and the cost will be $32 per person. This $32 includes the cost of the buffet meal. Catering will be provided by C&C Market. Admission to the basketball game will be extra. The team will be honored during halftime.

In addition to a number of the players from the 1952 team and Coach Crandall, several members of the FUHS administration and athletic Department will be attending, as well as other special guests. There will be a short program when several players will share about the lessons they learned from playing basketball and how they applied these lessons during their life.

This letter is being sent out in the hope that there are a number of classmates and friends of the team who would like to attend the reunion and join with us in honoring this great team and coach for their accomplishments.

Please come and show your appreciation for the 1952 FUHS Heavyweight team's unexcelled season. This is an event you will not want to miss.
