Part freak show, part music and a whole lot of jaw-dropping action comes to the Arcata Playhouse when the Squidling Bros. Circus Sideshow begins its on-stage madness Wednesday at 9 p.m.
"Brothers "Matterz Squidling" and "Jelly Boy the Clown Squidling" have created an international sensation with a dare-devilish mix of music, freak show, dancing, visual art, unusual sword swallowing, aerial performances, burlesque and body modification," according to the entertainers' website.
Since putting together the act and taking to the road in 2007, the brothers have performed with Primus, Exploited, Prodigy, The National, Circus Contraption, Rev Horton Heat, Mudvayne, Suicide Silence and Merle Haggard as well as appearing at festivals from Detroit to Croatia.
Some of their acts sound a bit painful, albeit entertaining -- climbing ladders of machetes, fooling around with various sharp objects, from glass to nails and more.
"We believe The Squidling Bros. Sideshow Circus is successful because people are always fascinated by the physically impossible, or seeing before their eyes something that should be impossible," Jelly was quoted on the duo's website. "Other similar shows in recent years were straight freak shows. Ours is more of a freak show and stunt show with dancing, aerial stunts and comedy."
Va Va Voom Burlesque and Gunsafe will open Wednesday's show at the Arcata Playhouse. Tickets are $10 at the door. For more information, call 845-5842.
