Beginning Beethoven's violin sonatas, with a twist of Debussy

Humboldt State University music faculty and violinist Cindy Moyer will launch her project to play all 10 Beethoven violin sonatas in concert in the HSU Music Faculty Artist Series concert at 8 p.m. Saturday in the HSU Fulkerson Recital Hall with faculty member and pianist Daniela Mineva.. The musicians will start with Beethoven's Sonata in D Major for Piano and Violin, an early work of the renown composer. "While it's an early piece," Moyer said, "it is clearly recognizable as mature Beethoven." Moyer plans to play the other nine violin sonatas over the course of several future recitals, according to the announcement. Mineva's talent will be showcased on a performance of a Claude Debussy sonata for violin and piano as well as 20th century Polish composer Witold Lutoslawski's partita for violin and piano. The program will also include a Fantasia from George Phillip Telemann. Tickets to Saturday's concert are $8 general, $3 students/seniors and available at the HSU Ticket Office or at the door.
